Hydraulic grabs for excavators are the core equipment of the multifunctional attachments of excavators, especially the lotus claw (also known as multi-petal grab). The lotus claw launched by YG is designed for complex working conditions, combining the high-efficiency grabbing ability of the hydraulic grab bucket with the durability of the rock grabs for excavators. Its unique multi-petal structure can easily handle the grabbing and sorting of loose or bulk materials such as construction waste, ore, scrap steel, etc., and is suitable for a variety of scenarios such as mines, ports, and demolition sites. Through the precise control of the hydraulic system, the lotus claw improves operating efficiency while significantly reducing labor costs.

Applications Of Hydraulic Grab Bucket
- Mining: Quickly sorting large pieces of ore (rock grabs for excavators), replacing manual crushing;
- Building demolition: Efficiently grab concrete fragments to reduce secondary crushing costs;
- Port logistics: Loading and unloading scrap steel and bulk materials, single operation efficiency increased by 40%;
- Environmental recycling: Classify and grab recyclables such as metals and plastics to support resource reuse.
A mining company in Senegal reported: “After using YG’s hydraulic grabs for excavators, the ore processing speed increased by 3 times and the equipment wear rate decreased by 25%.”

Hydraulic grab bucket Working Principle
The lotus claw is precisely controlled by a hydraulic drive:
- Power transmission: The hydraulic oil pump of the excavator delivers high-pressure oil to the grab cylinder;
- Grabbing action: The cylinder pushes the connecting rod mechanism to drive the multi-petal claw teeth to close/open;
- Load adjustment: The built-in pressure sensor provides real-time feedback on the grab force to prevent overloading;
- Adaptive design: The claw angle of the hydraulic grab bucket can be automatically fine-tuned according to the shape of the material to ensure a stable grip.
- This principle enables rock grabs for excavators to crush hard materials and maintain a high grab rate in loose environments.

Features of rock grabs for excavators
- High strength and durability: The overall heat treatment process extends the service life to more than 15,000 hours;
- Intelligent control: Optional remote control operation module to achieve precise operation 20 meters away;
- Fast switching: Universal interface adapts to mainstream brand excavators, replacement time <30 minutes;
- Safe and reliable: Double hydraulic locking device prevents accidental loosening, ISO 9001 certified;
- Energy saving and environmental protection: Energy consumption is reduced by 15% compared with traditional grab buckets, and operating noise is <80 decibels.
YG Hydraulic grabs for excavators Sold to Puerto Rico
Challenge
The Puerto Rican client mainly engages in building demolition and scrap metal recycling. The work site is filled with mixed materials, including waste steel bars, concrete blocks, scrap wood, and mixed rubbish. Their old grabs had multiple problems: insufficient gripping force to hold dense or irregular-shaped scrap steel firmly; bucket teeth wore out quickly and needed replacement every 600 hours on average; low working efficiency with a single grab volume of only 0.2-0.3 cubic meters, resulting in project delays. Besides, the local hot and humid summer climate easily caused the hydraulic system to overheat, forcing frequent stops for cooling.
Solution
Based on the client’s excavator model (Caterpillar 320D, operating weight around 20 tons), YG recommended the YGO08B hydraulic grabs for excavators, along with the supporting solutions below:
- Perfect fit: The YGO08B fits an 18-25 ton excavator. It has a maximum jaw opening of 2500mm and an opening height of 2000mm, with a single grab capacity of 1.0 cubic meter, fully matching the client’s equipment and working demands.
- Powerful gripping: Designed with 4 or 5 jaw teeth, it runs at a working pressure of 320bar and a working flow of 200-250 L/min. It can easily penetrate and firmly hold dense scrap steel piles and large concrete blocks.
- Long service life & high reliability: The jaw teeth adopt integral heat treatment, with a service life of over 15,000 hours. The dual hydraulic locking device prevents accidental loosening to guarantee safety during high-altitude and inclined operations.
- Smart adaptation: A built-in pressure sensor monitors gripping force in real time and adjusts jaw angles automatically to avoid overload damage. An optional 20-meter remote control module lets operators stay away from hazardous areas.
- Optimized heat dissipation: An auxiliary radiator is installed on the hydraulic circuit to adapt to Puerto Rico’s tropical climate. The oil temperature stays below 80℃ even after 4 hours of continuous operation.
Results
After using the YGO08B hydraulic grabs for excavators for three months, the client achieved the following improvements:
- Greatly improved efficiency: The single grab volume rose from 0.25 cubic meters to 0.9-1.0 cubic meters. The scrap steel loading and unloading speed tripled, and the daily processing capacity increased from 80 tons to 240 tons.
- Much longer service life: No obvious wear was found on the jaw teeth after 1,200 hours of use. It is expected to reach the designed 15,000-hour lifespan, 5 times longer than the old grabs.
- Sharp drop in downtime: No more shutdowns due to hydraulic overheating. Thanks to the universal connector, equipment switching time was cut from 1.5 hours to 25 minutes, greatly reducing idle losses.
- Enhanced safety: Zero material drop incidents thanks to the dual hydraulic locking device.
- Fast return on investment: The client estimated that the cost of the new equipment will be recovered within 6 months merely from the improved scrap metal recycling efficiency.
Hydraulic grabs for excavators from the YG manufacturer
- Customized design: adjust the number of claws (4-6 petals) and the material of the tooth tip (manganese steel/tungsten steel) according to customer needs;
- Cost advantage: 20% lower than similar products in Europe, and the warranty period is extended to 2 years.
- Impact-resistant and Anti-jamming Structure: The connecting pins of jaw teeth are made of high-strength alloy steel with self-lubricating bushings. Even under harsh working conditions mixed with steel bars and concrete blocks, they can effectively withstand lateral impact and prevent jaw jamming.
