The industrial wood chipper machine is a very sturdy and powerful equipment. It is primarily used to cut large amounts of wood into smaller pieces or chips that are easier to handle. These machines come in many different sizes, from small models suitable for home use to large, heavy-duty machines designed specifically for commercial or industrial use. The main function of industrial wood chippers is to turn large round logs, branches, and other wood waste into smaller, more uniform pieces that can be used in composting, mulch production, and even as biomass fuel.

Why Use an Industrial Wood Shredder?
In the modern, fast-moving industrial world, efficiency has become very important. When dealing with large quantities of wood waste, whether from construction, horticulture, or forestry, industrial wood shredders are indispensable tools. These machines are designed to cut wood into smaller pieces for easy transportation, recycling, or disposal.

4 Advantages of Using a Wood Shredder
Great volume reduction to save space and transportation costs
Industrial wood chipper machines process bulky waste such as branches, trunks, wood offcuts, and bark into fine wood chips or wood shreds in one go, with a volume reduction rate of 80% to 90%. Take YG-6145 as an example. It handles 5 to 6 tons of raw materials per hour. The crushed material takes up far less space, which cuts down on storage area. Material can also be blown directly into transport vehicles from the discharge port, lowering delivery trips and fuel consumption. For waste generated from garden maintenance and forest cleaning, each truck can carry over five times more material after volume reduction, bringing remarkable long-term savings.
Cost-effective operation to cut disposal costs and generate extra income
On-site crushing eliminates high fees for waste collection and landfilling, as well as manual loading and handling work. Crushed wood chips have multiple practical values. They can be sold to power plants and heating companies as biomass fuel, used as mulch for municipal greening and orchard soil moisture retention, or made into raw materials for high-density boards, particle boards, and mushroom growing medium. YG machines produce evenly discharged material with clear wood fibers. Users can spend less on purchased raw materials and turn waste into sellable products, creating a healthy cycle of “waste → resource → profit”.
Eco-friendly performance to support sustainable agriculture and forestry
Crush agricultural and forestry residues like branches, bark, and crop stalks for field returning or composting. This boosts soil organic matter and reduces chemical fertilizer use, in line with circular agriculture concepts. The YG series trailer wood chipper plays a key role in disposing pine wilt disease infected trees. Dead trees are crushed on-site into fine pieces (particle size ≤ 2.5 cm) to destroy habitats of pests like longhorn beetles and stop the spread of diseases. Replacing open burning with wood chip treatment greatly cuts carbon dioxide and particulate emissions to protect air quality. The processed material is also widely used in soil and water conservation, seedling bed substrates, and other ecological restoration projects.
Improved operational safety to reduce on-site hazards
Unprocessed thick branches, thorny twigs, and long timber often cause cuts, bruises, or vehicle rollovers during manual handling, loading, and transport. After crushing, materials become uniform small particles with no sharp edges. The enclosed discharge port feeds materials directly into vehicles or collection bags, minimizing direct human contact. YG machines are equipped with emergency stop buttons, feed lights, and automatic engine overload protection systems. Operators can finish all work without getting close to the feed opening, effectively preventing work injuries. Besides, wood chips are far less flammable than piled dry branches, offering better storage safety.

Industrial Wood Chipper Machine Operation Tips
Refer to the guidelines below when processing different types of wood:
High-moisture Softwood (e.g., fresh poplar, willow, moisture content > 40%)
- Manually shift the hydraulic feeding speed down one gear (select low feed speed among the three manual gears). Keep the main rotating speed of the industrial wood chipper machine at the rated value (2900 r/min for Model 6130, 2500 r/min for Model 6145).
- Run the machine with no load for 10 seconds after every hour of operation. The high-speed airflow from the rotor will blow off stuck wet wood chips.
- Expert Tip: YG machines adopt dual crushing with blade cutting and high-speed airflow impact. For high-moisture materials, reduce the feeding rate to fully dry chips with airflow.
Dry Hard Mixed Wood (e.g., oak, pagoda tree, beech, moisture content < 15%)
- Equipped with 4 exclusively quenched movable blades (155 mm blade length for Model 6130, 450 mm for Model 6145). The blades can work continuously for 120 hours on hardwood without regrinding.
- Inspect blade edges every 100 hours. Slightly dull blades can be reground after up to 140 hours.
- Notes: Keep metal and stones away to avoid blade damage. Use the automatic mode of the intelligent feeding system. It will stop feeding automatically when the engine is overloaded, and resume operation once the load returns to normal.
Soil-covered Tree Roots & Garden Waste with Lots of Sand and Gravel
- Sift out soil or spray water for dust suppression before processing. Widen the gap between fixed blades and movable blades from the default 3 mm to 4–5 mm to reduce abrasion by sand particles.
- Clean accumulated sediment every 8 hours, and check if the reinforced mesh water tank guard is clogged. The reinforced mesh guard of YG products ensures stable heat dissipation even in harsh working conditions.
Frozen Wood in Winter (branches or logs at temperature < -5℃)
- Frozen wood is more brittle. Increase the feeding speed by one manual gear to raise output by 12%–15%.
- Operation Notes: Preheat the engine for 3 to 5 minutes before startup. Check if the locking sleeve pulley gets loose due to cold contraction. The locking sleeve pulley fitted on YG machines features anti-slipping design; visual inspection is still recommended.
- Let the machine idle for 1 minute after work to remove residual ice chips and prevent freezing overnight.
High-fiber Long-stem Materials (bamboo, reed, bagasse)
- Cut materials into sections no longer than 30 cm in advance. Set the feeding gear to the lowest speed, and feed materials evenly via the dual-motor synchronous hydraulic roller system.
- Clean fiber buildup on both sides of the cutter roller with compressed air after processing every 10 tons of bamboo, and check the seal of bearing housings.
- Expert Tip: YG-6145 is fitted with a feed light and emergency stop button. Press the emergency stop button immediately if material winding occurs during processing long stems, then reset and restart the machine.
Factors to Consider When Choosing an Industrial Wood Chipper
- Wood processing capacity: When selecting a machine, consider the amount of wood you expect to process. For large industrial applications, it is best to choose a large industrial wood chipper.
- Wood type: Think about the type of wood you will be processing. Some wood chippers are designed specifically for softwoods. While others are more robust and suitable for processing hardwoods or logs with high moisture content.
- Power source: Industrial wood chippers can be powered by electricity, diesel engines, or hydraulics. If it is outdoors or in a remote area, a diesel engine may be more suitable.
- Size and portability: Depending on the environment in which the machine is to be used, the size and portability of the wood chipper are important. It is recommended to choose a machine that is easy to move around!
- Safety features: Safety should be a primary consideration when choosing an industrial wood chipper. Look for machines that feature automatic shut-offs, protection devices, and emergency stops.

Maintenance of Industrial Wood Shredder
- Maintenance or replacement of blades: Over time, the blades of an industrial wood chipper machine can become unsharp. Therefore, regular sharpening or replacement of the blades is the key to maintaining the performance of the machine.
- Lubricate moving parts: Ensuring that all moving parts are properly lubricated reduces friction. This helps to extend the life of the machine and helps to avoid potential breakdowns.
- Inspect and clean the machine regularly: It is important to inspect the machine regularly to look at the blades and the parts around the hopper. After use, clean the machine to keep it clean.
- Check for wear and tear: Due to the intensive use of industrial wood shredders, parts like bearings, belts, and drums are prone to wear and tear. So we need to check regularly and replace these parts in time.
